IwLCC2001 (The Second International Workshop on the Literature in Cognitive and Computer Organized by the SIG-LCC, JCSS) at ICCS2001 Title: To the Uncharted Realm of "Literature" Theme: Creation of Literature (Art) Chair: Jun Katanuma, Sapporo International University, Japan Co-chairs: Takashi Ogata, Yamanashi University, Japan Akihito Kanai, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science/Yamanashi Univerity, Japan Hitoshi Morita, Nagasaki Seebold University, Japan Akifumi Tokosumi, Tokyo Institute of Technology Indurkhya Bipin, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology AIM: The conventional study of literature has treated literature as a fixed study target and placed emphasis on analyzing of the unchangeable "text". SIG-LCC (A Special Interest Group on Literature in Cognition and Computer, Japanese Cognitive Science Society), however, has viewed literature from a different perspective. We see literature as a process of ever changing phenomenon of creation and cognition. LCC has so far discussed various new possibilities of approaching literature: cognitive and calculative model of literature, the system of generating narrative, the expression of literature by computer technology and how to market the outcome, statistics processing of a language of literature. This symposium seeks to introduce the study trend of LCC, also to invite researchers all over the world to venture into a new realm of study of literature by focusing on a creation process of literature. We hope that this symposium will shed some light on the cognitive process of how art is created and understood. This symposium is a succession of the First International Workshop on the Literature in Cognitive and Computer held and organized by the SIG-LCC at the International Cognitive Science Convention in Tokyo, in July 1999.
